The New Normal is the newest composition on Gradient, having been finished just days before the recording. It was largely composed while backstage at Toronto’s Roy Thompson Hall during Dietschi’s many weeks of rehearsals and concerts with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and contains much of the frantic energy that he was experiencing in the surge of musical activity that emerged as lockdown measures were lifted in Toronto.
